In 2023, Africitizen received a microgrant from the Gathering for Open Science Hardware (GOSH) Community to organize a workshop on Open Science Hardware (OScH) in Africa. The African continent, with its many development challenges, needs the development of movements such as OScH to drive scientific advancement and innovation.

Through an interactive online workshop, members of the African Open Science Hardware collectively reflect on deconstructing the complexity of the problem linked to the growth of the OScH movement in Africa and identified strategies for achieving a desired impact, including the development of collective actions led by regional coordinators, the promotion and dissemination of information, OScH education, the development of a participatory research and funding system, a change in mindset, and the connection between organizations working in this field and universities.

This report aims to guide future efforts to develop Open Science Hardware in Africa, focusing on innovative solutions for local challenges and fostering a collaborative and engaged community.
