The Open Science and Accessibility Steering Group aims to address the barriers people from around the world face when working in and with Synthetic Biology. This year, the OScA Steering Group embraced nine different time zones, representing people from America, Asia, and Europe, with different backgrounds related to synthetic biology.

Open Science Hackathon for Accessibility (OScAthon) was a regional hackathon in Latin America, with talks and mentoring related to Open Science and, especially, open hardware. The three-day event took place from September 15-17th at the Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia, UPCH in Lima, Peru. Along with a hackathon, the event included discussions on open licensing, synbio, workshops on developing open hardware and software, and also the presentation of projects created by participating teams for the Hackathon.
