The Digital Naturalism Conference hosts field biologists, interaction designers, engineers, artists, and nature enthusiasts in a field setting in some of the world’s major hubs for biological research, where they can collectively explore the intersections of interactive design and biology.

The Digital Naturalism Conference (Dinacon) ran from July 1 to 31, 2022, in Batticaloa, Sri Lanka, with partner Dreamspace Academy. This month-long conference led to the creation of twenty-one independent projects and sixteen newsletters made publicly available on archive.org. Altogether, over ninety-two participants joined the conference over the month. Dincacon 2022 worked to serve the local community with two workshops that engaged over forty members of the Batticaloa community, including local youth from a nearby orphanage. In partnership with Dreamscape, Dinalabs provided locals with wildlife classes that helped introduce participants to their local ecosystem by embracing tools and techniques to analyze nature. In another project, locals learned to create game logic through visual scripting for game development.

Dinacon posted continually throughout the conference on the GOSH forum and strived that all participants published at least one documentation output that will tangibly benefit the open-source community.
