Digital Naturalism Labs (Dinalab) in Gamboa, Panama, holds free weekly consulting and workshops about open science hardware for the community of local artists and scientists who live in the rainforest surrounding us.

The Jungle Tech Series was a series of 6 weekly workshops open to the public from mid-May until the end of June. Each workshop ran around 3 hours, including all materials participants needed. The workshops provided participants with an introduction to help focus on different open-science hardware techniques.

The series worked with about 10–14 participants at a time, and included learning tools like:

  • Arduino, Sensors
  • Wireless Radio
  • Camera Traps
  • 3D printing
  • Mould making
  • Raspberry Pi
  • Computer Vision
  • Electronics
  • Soldering
  • 3D Scanning
  • Open Source Software for project management and workflows
  • DIY Open Source Microscopy
  • Intro to GOSH-like communities

The first workshop was an intro to Arduino including controlling actuators and handling input. Other events included workshops on camera trapping animal tracking and DIY plastic recycling. Documentation of projects was provided and linked below.
