Myxonautes is a non-profit organization that provides biohacking workshops. This will be the second event of the KOMB project, known as Daykomb. The workshop took place on 30 April 2023 at the BIB Hackerspace in Montpellier, France.

The event focused on experimentation and reflection event about the documentation of the low-tech and mobile fermentation chamber of the KOMB project. The goal of the KOMB project is to develop an open hardware device for the culture of an innovative material from the fermentation of the kombucha drink: bacterial cellulose.

The project team focused on documenting the process of bacterial cellulose growth through capturing photos, data and text. They worked with Raspberry Pi; oxygen and temperature sensors and low-tech and mobile fermentation chambers to enable real-time data capture for temperature, humidity and dissolved oxygen.

The workshop had 15 attendees. After the first part on understanding the interactions between microorganisms in the production of bacterial cellulose, participants modelled the mobile and low-tech fermentation chamber in 3D CAD software.

The program will be followed by a 5-day workshop at Nîmes University with a class of 25 students in the design field in October 2023.
