Africa Open Science and Hardware (AfricaOSH) is a community of makers, hackers, scientists and practitioners within African civil society that aim to make open science hardware ubiquitous across the continent and use these capacities to solve social problems that exist across Africa. AfricaOSH held its 2022 summit in Yaoundé, Cameroon, at Mboalab and the three-day event attracted over 100 attendees from across Africa and beyond. The theme of the summit was ‘Growing the Do-It-Yourself & Do-It-Together (DIY/DIT) Culture for Community Transformation’. The aim of the event was to kick-start the community of OScH actors across East Africa through facilitated collaboration & knowledge-sharing.

Attendees were able to share thoughts through panel discussions on topics including scientific communication, engage with subject experts within interactive sessions, & listen in on presentations by subject experts. Represented groups include FabLab Rwanda, Bongo Tech, the University of Bath and Ariasana Limited. These activities created a collaborative network of actors who joined the AfricaOSH WhatsApp group and other community forums, which the organisers hope will lead to connections and collaborations beyond the three-day event.
